Meet Jessica Sheriff

Founder of The Validated Voice

Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Wellness Designer and Writer.

This is my story

I am a first generation Jamaican American non-binary mental health counselor. My practice prioritizes the healing and collective liberation of LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and those with intersectionalities. I integrate the healing justice framework into how I listen to and treat others -- facilitating the (re)discovery of pathways to individual and collective wellbeing. My practice centers systemic oppression in determining how trauma is born, persists and is passed down generationally. My work's greatest intention is to reclaim wellness for queer, Black, Brown and Indigenous folks and to harness collective wisdom and strengths so that joy, peace, ease and liberation are how we resist and thrive.

I refuse to be put into any role that I don’t wholeheartedly want to be in, or to search for myself in a blueprint that builds and upholds whiteness and the patriarchy.

The problem is the constant fight of being included in and given access to, mental health and wellness education and resources. The problem is that LGBTQ and people of colors’ experiences and identities are not woven into the health and wellness fabric, making it much harder to ask for help, find help, find community and prioritize our own wellbeing.

I am committed to developing spaces where folks like me feel safe, empowered and free to be themselves. I imagine a safe, equitable and inclusive system where mental health and wellbeing are at the core of our livelihood.

A few fun facts about me

Nature-based Therapy

I am a lover and practitioner of Nature-based therapy. Nature can serve as a powerful resource in connecting to the Self, others, and the many healing qualities of the Elements. I believe that in developing a relationship with the natural world, we can gain a deeper understanding of ourselves, our place on Earth and how we relate to other human beings.

Self Expression

is one of the most powerful and accessible resources for healing because the most valuable and essential component is simply, you. Whether it’s through writing, drawing, movement or fashion, self expression helps me access my raw emotions, build my identity and learn to love myself, over and over again.
